Have you ever found yourself alone, looking up at the sky and wondering:
“Does God really exist?”
Perhaps you grew up in a believing family.
Perhaps you have always heard people talk about God.
Perhaps you have prayed several times in your life.
Or perhaps, on the contrary, you have always believed that God was simply a human invention.
Whatever your position today, this question deserves to be asked honestly.
Not to win a debate.
Not to condemn those who think differently.
But because if God truly exists, then our existence cannot be understood in the same way.
And if God does not exist?
Then the way we understand life, our origin, our destiny, and even our purpose must also be reconsidered.
Either way, this question is far too important to ignore.
WHY IS THIS QUESTION SO DIFFICULT?
Because God is not an object that we can simply place on a table and examine.
We can observe the stars.
Measure the oceans.
Study cells.
Explore the universe.
But if God exists, He is not part of creation that we can simply place inside a laboratory.
That is precisely why the question cannot be reduced to:
“Show me God physically, and I will believe.”
It challenges us to think differently.
We must ask:
Why is there something rather than nothing?
Where does the order we observe in the universe come from?
Why does human beings possess consciousness, the ability to reason, and a deep sense of right and wrong?
Why do we search for meaning in our existence?
These questions do not automatically prove the existence of God.
But they show us something important:
the question of God is also a philosophical, scientific, moral, and existential question.
SO, WHAT CAN MAKE US THINK?
Let us consider a few examples.
1. THE EXISTENCE OF THE UNIVERSE
We live in a universe with a history, a structure, and remarkably consistent physical laws.
Science allows us to study how the universe develops.
But another question remains:
Why is there a universe rather than nothing at all?
Discovering how something works does not necessarily answer the question of why that reality exists in the first place.
2. ORDER AND COMPLEXITY
When we discover a complex system, we naturally seek to understand its origin.
A book makes us think of an author.
A work of art makes us think of an artist.
A computer program makes us think of a designer.
So when we observe the immense complexity of life and the universe, some people ask:
Can this reality be explained solely through natural processes, or does it also point toward intelligence at its origin?
Science continues to explore these questions.
And serious debates exist among scientists, philosophers, and theologians about how these questions should be understood.
3. THE SENSE OF RIGHT AND WRONG
Why do certain things seem deeply unjust to us?
Why are we outraged by cruelty?
Why do we believe that certain actions are genuinely wrong, even when an entire society might try to justify them?
Of course, cultures may differ regarding certain moral rules.
Yet human beings seem to possess a profound moral awareness.
The Bible says:
“They show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness.”
— Romans 2:14–15
For the Christian faith, this moral awareness is not simply an accident.
It points to something deeper: human beings were created by God and carry within them a moral dimension.
BUT BE CAREFUL: BELIEVING IN GOD IS NOT SIMPLY A MATTER OF ARGUMENTS
You can hear a thousand arguments about God...
And remain unconvinced.
You can also go through a personal experience that makes you ask questions you had never considered before.
Because behind the question:
“Does God exist?”
there is often another, much more personal question:
“If God exists, can I actually know Him?”
And this is where the biblical perspective becomes especially important.
The Bible does not begin by spending a long time trying to convince the reader that God exists.
It begins with this declaration:
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”
— Genesis 1:1
For the Bible, God is not a secondary hypothesis.
He is the starting point.
AND WHAT IF GOD REALLY DOES EXIST?
Then another question becomes unavoidable:
Why are we here?
If we are simply the result of a succession of events without any ultimate purpose, then each person must create their own meaning for life.
But if we were intentionally created...
Then our lives may have a purpose greater than ourselves.
Our talents.
Our abilities.
Our intelligence.
Our very existence.
All of these may have a reason.
And this is precisely where the search for God connects with the search for our purpose in life.
Perhaps the question:
“What am I going to do with my life?”
should be preceded by another:
“Why was I given this life?”
WHAT CAN YOU DO TODAY?
Do not believe simply because we tell you to.
But do not reject God either simply because you have never taken the time to seriously examine the question.
Take a Bible.
Read a few passages.
Reflect.
Ask questions.
Search honestly.
And if you are a believer, do not be afraid of sincere questions.
Truth does not need fear to defend itself.
You can even pray this simple prayer:
“God, if You truly exist, I want to know You. Guide me in my search. Give me the wisdom to understand, the humility to recognize the truth, and the courage to follow it. Amen.”
AND WHAT IF THE QUESTION IS NOT ONLY: “DOES GOD EXIST?”
Perhaps the next question is even more personal:
“If God exists, can He truly know me and have a purpose for my life?”
This is where our search becomes much deeper.
Because discovering that God exists is not enough.
We must also discover who He is.
